How do basketball ‘seasons’ work?
- Summer Season commences at the start of Term 4 and concludes with the Grand Final usually in the last week of Term 1.
- Winter Season commences at the start of Term 2 and concludes with the Grand Final usually in the last week of Term 3.
Which days are boys’ and girls’ games played?
Currently games are played on the following days, however this is subject to change at any time without notice from K&MDBA:
- Boys play on Saturdays.
- Girls Miniball to U11 (inclusive) play on Tuesdays.
- Girls U12 Girls to U23 play on Wednesdays.
How much does it cost to register for a season with Fosters Phantoms?
The following breakdown represents our club fee, per season, which is current as of 1st January 2024.
- Miniball – First season is free.
- U8 to U23 – $75.00 per player
*Please note: Kilsyth Basketball and Basketball Victoria have season/annual fees that will be an additional charge on registration. Fosters Phantoms has no control of these charges and is only responsible for the club fees above.
How do I register and pay fees?

Do you offer payment plans/financial support to families?
If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact our club treasurer via email to discuss further. We are here to support our families and all conversations will remain confidential.
Do you have to have a uniform when playing games?
Yes, all players must wear the full Fosters Phantoms uniform to all competition games. Our compulsory uniform includes:
- Fosters Phantoms Logo Jersey
- Fosters Phantoms Logo Shorts
Is my child ‘insured’ for injury when they are training and playing basketball?
To be covered by insurance when injured, players must be registered on the PlayHQ database. This registration covers injuries incurred at training and games.
How can I get a uniform?
Uniforms can be purchased at Kilsyth Basketball Stadium by appointment only. To make an appointment, please visit https://www.kilsythbasketball.com.au/the-locker-room/ or call 9728 1033 to make an appointment.
Where are games played?
Games are played at the following stadiums:
- Kilsyth Sports Centre: 115 Liverpool Road Kilsyth,
- Lilydale Basketball Stadium: Hutchinson Street, Lilydale
- Oxley Stadium: Old Melbourne Rd, Chirnside Park
- Melba Secondary College: Brentnall Rd Croydon
What do you have to take to training?
All players must bring a ball, towel, drink bottle and wear sneakers/runners to all training sessions. Basketball sizes per age groupings are:
- Mini Ball – Under 11: Size 5
- U12 – U14 Boys: Size 6
- U12 – U23 Girls: Size 6
- U15 and above Boys: Size 7

What is my team number and how do I find my fixture of games?
When teams are formed season, they are allocated a ‘team number’. This is to enable the team to be recorded in the competition. For example, if your team is referred to as ‘B17’ you will know that this stands for Fosters Phantoms Boys Team 17 or ‘G12’ would stand for Fosters Phantoms Girls Team 12. Knowing this number will allow you to link your teams’ fixtures through MyHoops or viewing the details on PlayHQ.
What is the role of the Team Manager?
Each team requires someone to volunteers as ‘Team Manager’ for the season. This person is the main contact between the club and the individual team. Team managers are accountable for game reminders and processing the weekly timesheet/ref fees via TeamPay each week and they are there to support the team with any general questions they have.
What do I do if my child is sick/injured and can’t play a game?
If your child is sick, please contact your coach and team manager as soon as possible. If your child is injured and will be unable to play multiple games, we strongly suggest you get a medical certificate and pass it onto the Club Secretary to get credit for games missed.
Who do I contact at Fosters Phantoms when I have a compliment, complaint, or general feedback?
Please contact our Club President, Vice President or Secretary should you have anything you wish to discuss with us. Contact details can be found under the committee members tab.
When do we find out what team we are playing in?
Once the teams are finalised, our coordinators will contact the allocated coach and they will contact each family. This generally occurs within the school holidays prior to the season starting. The coach will introduce themselves, advise of the day and location for training and when training will commence.
Who coaches the teams?
Teams are coached by volunteers who are approved and allocated by the club. They are usually a current Fosters Phantoms player, a family member of someone on a team and/or a committee member. All Coaches hold a current Working with Children Check and we offer ongoing support to our coaches throughout the season. If you are interested in becoming a Coach, please contact our Coordinators or the Club Secretary to discuss further (see committee tab for details).
How do you form the teams?
Our Boys and Girls Coordinators are responsible for this task along with assistance from our other committee members. The coordinators work extremely hard putting our teams together each season and take into consideration several things when forming teams. Once the teams are formed, they are communicated to the team’s coach who advises each family.
How many age groups are there?
We offer teams across all age groups – Miniball (from age 5) to under 23’s in both boys’ and girls’ domestic competition.
